Classic
Luffenham
conditions
will be firm fairways and greens. A premium in hitting the fairway
allows the golfer to fly into the green. From the rough its very
difficult to hold the green and in some circumstances fool hardy
to try.

1st Hole -
Gentle opener, aim left off the tee as the fairway
slopes left to right, when approaching the green use the same strategy.
2nd
Hole
-
One of the best holes on the course. Aim
inside the left fairway bunker off the tee. The approach shot should be
aimed at the shelter at the rear left of green. Be aware of the severe
sloping left to right on the green.
3rd
Hole
- A good drive will catch the right to left slope and leave a short iron
approach shot. A gentle par 4.
4th Hole -
Off the tee aim for the red barn on the horizon, the
premium is on hitting the fairway allowing you to hold the green. Don’t
get greedy with length.
5th Hole -
Plays a little longer than the yardage suggests, can be
awkward to gauge wind direction with this sheltered tee.
6th
Hole -
Be aware that the tee blocks point you towards the right
fairway bunkers when lining up for your tee shot. Big hitters can reach
this green comfortably in two but be aware of the blind pot bunker
guarding the front right of the green.
7th
Hole -
Driving down the
right side of the fairway will utilise the right to lef sloping fairway
gaining those extra few yards. Club selection is vital when approaching
this green that is situated high above the fairway.
8th
Hole - A typical risk reward tee shot. Playing
short of the fairway bunkers leaves a short iron approach but taking on
the three bunkers beside the green will leave a short pitch to this
birdieable hole.
9th
Hole - Be careful to line up as the tee points
you towards the right greenside bunker. A gentle par 3 to finish off the
front nine.Again be mindful of the sheltered nature of the tee.
10th
Hole - Aim for the left side of the fairway as
anything straying right will kick down the left to right slope into
trouble. A tricky second shot as the green sits a little offset to the
middle of the fairway.
11th
Hole -
The first of Luffenham
Heaths Amen corner. Driving right of the penal fairway bunkers will
catch the right to left slope bringing the ball back to the middle. Take
care with the approach shot as clever bunkering awaits anything less
than a well-struck shot.
12th
Hole -
Opposite to the 5th in the fact this plays a
little shorter than the yardage. Demands an accurate tee shot due to the
narrow entrance. Once negotiated leaves a very realistic birdie chance.
Miss the green and it will leave a difficult up and down.
13th
Hole - The longest and most difficult par 4 as
the yardage suggests. Demands a right to left tee shot leaving a long
iron / fairway wood approach through a narrow entrance. If you have
decided to play it as a par 5 be careful to avoid the cleverly placed
fairway bunker when laying up.
14th
Hole - Be aware of the left fairway bunker,
accuracy is better than length on this short par 4. Make the most of
this hole before the strong finish.
15th
Hole - My favourite hole on the course. The
ideal tee shot is to drive inside the fairway bunkers exposing the whole
of the green. The approach plays uphill so take care with club
selection. Anything falling short is usually gathered into the right
greenside bunkers.
16th
Hole -
Two very well placed fairway bunkers to the right gather
any tee shot running from the middle of the fairway, aim left. Be
aware that with a downhill approach shot and a green running away from
you it is easy to overshoot.
17th
Hole - Regarded by many as the best
hole on the course. A good strong par 3. Clever bunkering can catch the
golfers eye, so concentrate. The tee shot demands a well-struck shot
aiming for the left side of the green. Miss this green and you have your
work cut out for a par.

18th
Hole -
A demanding drive between gorse bushes to the right and
deep fairway bunkers to the left awaiting the errant tee shot mean this
is no easy par 5 finish. The ideal tee shot is to the right side of the
fairway using the slope. Laying up into the narrow portion of the
fairway leaves the easiest approach shot.
